DESIGN ON A DIME

CLUTTER BE GONE!

Re-evaluating what you really need in your space can help you decide what to get rid of or put away so that your space can feel more open and organized. One trick is to take everything out and systematically place items back into your space that make sense and provide aesthetic functionality and comfort. By doing this, you can decide what or if you need to buy anything to refresh your space.

REPURPOSE WHAT YOU'VE GOT

Take a look around your home. Are there pieces you could do without? Think again! How can you reuse those pieces? Can they simply be moved to another room? Can they be refurbished or jazzed up with some paint or attractive hardware? Do your old chairs just need to be reupholstered with new fabric? Take to the Internet to look for items you’re drawn to as inspiration for your “new” pieces. Sometimes, reusing what you have can also be as easy as rearranging. Try rearranging your furniture or hang art pieces in a new and interesting way on your walls or place different size art pieces in layers on a shelf. You can paint the frames to really make your art pop!

NICE AND NEUTRAL

Neutral is never-ending! Choosing signature pieces in neutral colors is a safe bet to stand the test of time. Neutral items can be moved from room to room over the years and can be livened up with interesting accessories, fabrics, area rugs, art, or lighting that are on trend with present day styles. When you choose key furniture in neutral colors, you’ll only have to worry about a higher price tag once, as opposed to spending big bucks every few years.

PAINTING IS PRICELESS

Want to make a dramatic change with little cost? Consider a fresh coat of paint on your walls. Paint is one of the most inexpensive and quickest ways to do a room makeover. It’s fun and simple to change the color of your walls. Whether it be dark and moody or bright and airy. Be sure to coordinate your wall color with the items in your space.

WONDERFUL WALL TREATMENTS

Add interest to your walls with DIY wood paneling or a fun wallpaper accent wall. You can create endless geometric patterns on your wall with inexpensive strips of lumber from your local home improvement store. Go classic or go crazy! Paint the wall and timber one color for a modern monochromatic look. Want to add pops of color or interesting patterns to your wall? Consider adding wallpaper to a wall. If you’re afraid to go all out, you can frame out a section of your wall with wood molding and apply the wallpaper within the frame like a piece of framed artwork.
